(dc) rubens' tube

my space artist friend, ayako ono, has done some really cool experiments with standing waves and particles in space.

i think her experiments are even cooler than the more traditional rubens' tube, which is a similar idea, but it doesn't require zero g for the visualization - just some dude's garage and some pvc pipe (thanks for the link, pedi):

reminds me of a little i experiment that ive been wanting to do.

there is a small local airport with a pair of 100'x6' or so cement culverts that run under the main runway.

for a couple of years now ive been wanting to take a 15"subwoofer bolted to a piece of plywood and my laptop with a signal generator and small amp and hear what happens when i put the subwoofer at 1 end and start getting resonant frequencies in such a huge pipe. :)

i am a little fearful though of the police showing-up ala tesla and the steel-girder skyscraper he got wobbling with his tactile transducer.

i'll tell you a little about my sonification project if you tell me who you are and how we know each other! is that a good deal?

hey ! :)

sounds like a deal to me.

we do not know each other outside of your blog.

i first saw you about 1 month ago on the aliens of the deep movie and thought you were pretty cool.

did a search and your blog popped-up and voila! we met.

in a nutshell...i design and install home theater systems in order to pay the bills while i try to bring various products to market like a patented clipless bicycle pedal and a childrens clock and a new firearm weapons projectile that i am frankly having moral/ethical problems with ala gatlin/maxim.

also happily married for 11yrs to a wonderful waldorf teacher and father to our 6yr old son and 3yr old daughter.

hows that ?

and like i said before....theres a resonance with you from somewhere but i couldnt begin to guess from where.

so now could you please tell me a little about the sonification work as i am really interested in all energy waveform aspects/subjects.

thanks.

going to wake the kids tonight and lay out on a blanket in the backyard for the shower !

hope you have great seeing there.

well, now that you put it that way, i'm happy to. just send me your email address - mine is my name (kelly snook) sans spaces at yahoo. i'll send you some ideas.

i also want to talk to you about how you patent an idea - i had a really good one this morning that i'd love to patent and see taken to the market.
