(nasa ames) home sweet work

how many years will go by before building 245 at nasa ames research center doesn't feel like home? possibly more years than it will actually exist. there is widespread talk of closing down the center, or changing it radically to be more consistent with nasa's new vision for exploration.

Based on your postings, you seem to spend a lot of time away from Washington DC for someone who actually works there. You must have a great boss!

I just wonder how you can do your NASA job when you are travelling around doing so many non-NASA things. Then again, if you are a civil servant you probably have lots of unused vacation time.

this was a nasa trip. i came for a workshop on lunar dust held near nasa ames this week. monday i worked at Ames. my weekends are mine to spend as i wish, and i wished to spend this weekend at the music industry weekend at bosch. last week's trip to houston was for the lunar and planetary science conference, which I attended for 5 days. weekends, again, were mine. if you want an account of the work aspects of my travels, you should refer to boringnasablog.blogspotnot.com. the only other travel i've done lately is moving between houston and dc. almost all of my other personal travel is on weekends and is almost always baha'i or family related. this weekend to chicago for a young adult baha'i workshop, and next weekend to vegas for a wedding and to see my grandma. i do have plenty of vacation for the odd day here or there that i actually take off, or for an actual vacation once or twice a year.

i usually try to spare blog readers these kinds of details because i find them tedious and superfluous. i try to focus on the interesting things i see and think about wherever i happen to be at any given time. perhaps if i talked more about rocket science, people like you would be satisfied that i'm actually doing my job.

Chill out. No one was criticising your job performance at NASA. I was just wondering how you fit it in given all of your posted (and colourful) exploits. Lighten up.

sorry - hit a bit close to home. everybody except 70 at nasa ames research center are on "the buyout list" being offered incentives to leave nasa. it's in our culture at ames (my original home center) to have to defend our value and relevance to the agency, country and world.... i'm chilled now. no worries...
